You might know that Wi-Fi all over the world is regulated by an organisation named Wi-Fi Alliance. Every device which has a Wi-Fi receiver or a Wi-Fi distributor in it has to be certified by the organisation before being available in the market. Wi-Fi 6 too is developed by Wi-Fi Alliance. The organisation develops different generations of wifi and the last generation it released was in 2013, which was “Wi-Fi “ aka 802.11ac.

The newest generation of wifi was “Wi-Fi 6” aka 802.11ax, launched in 2019. It has been 2 years since its release and we are not even close to the wide coverage of wifi 6 technology, but that topic is worth a separate discussion. The official site of wifi even mentions that wifi 7 is under development, so we can expect it after at least 7 years from now.

You might have seen AC & AX routers in our earlier blog, if you haven’t then go check it out here. After this article, we got requests to post a separate article explaining these routers in details and mention some of the best available and worth buying routers in the market, and here we are.

Let’s not waste any time and start with breaking a Myth

Busting the Myth

We always believe, or at least convince ourselves to believe that expensive is always better. It is human psychology that when we see an expensive router, we are more than convince to believe that the particular product must be having a higher range and this is not true at all. A ₹5,000 router might have a similar range as that of a router worth ₹25,000. Thus you should always check the specifications of the router like the range and dBi of antennas. Every router especially in the upper range has its various functions which it caters to. Thus the myth of expensive router being the better one has been busted.

OFDMA

Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) is now available in almost every new Wi-Fi 6 router in the market. Companies boast this feature as a key marketing point for a reason. This allows multiple streams of Wi-Fi to run. It brings separate devices to separate channels which allow seamless speed and very low latency. OFDMA is also known as the golden feature in Wi-Fi 6 routers.

Pricing & Top Brands

The pricing of Wi-Fi routers usually starts from approx. ₹5,000 and can climb up to even lakhs. TP-Link is one of the few brands that offer these routers near to ₹5,000, but they obviously come with compromised specs.

Some of the top brands are:-

ASUS

Asus is number 1 in the networking sector. Its devices are highly focused on speed and connectivity. They also offer to-notch security with their routers and their customer support is also very helpful.

Even though its routers are always costlier than its competitors, the product is worth paying a premium for. Negligible connection drops are seen, and latency is kept very less.

Linksys

Linksys has benefits such as it offers 3 years product replacement warranty. It is one of the most rigid and toughest routers out there. Lasts for years, that it seems the warranty is useless for customers. The support team is amazing, and the brand reputation is very high. prices are reasonable too and the coverage is amazing.

TP-Link

TP-Link is the star of routers when it comes to the budget segment. The pricing starts from approx. ₹5,000 and increases with additions in features. Its service network has increased enormously in past few years. TP-Link has become a reputed name in the market.

Do YOU need a Wi-Fi 6 Router??

If you are a gamer by profession, go for it, if you are a casual player, DON’T. At least for now. If you have a business where many people work at the same time and you need high speed, this product is meant for you. Even for households, you should purchase the Wi-Fi 6 router only & only if you need that much connectivity or you are a geek trying to test new technologies (papa bohot ameer hain aapke).

Most of the devices nowadays come with chips that support Wi-Fi 6, and it is the future for at least half a decade, so these routers are a very safe investment to say.
