Google has announced a new update to its Maps app, allowing users to access the app without needing a phone, exclusively on the latest version of Wear OS.
According to the company, this feature will be a significant improvement for outdoor enthusiasts and travelers, as it will allow them to navigate without having to carry their phones.
The new version of Google Maps for Wear OS will include the following:
- Searching for nearby locations
- Getting turn-by-turn directions
- Even accessing live traffic and transit updates
Additionally, users can save maps offline and access them in low-connectivity areas.
The update also includes a new voice-guided navigation feature, allowing users to hear directions through their smartwatch’s speakers rather than looking at the watch’s screen. This new feature will be available for all smartwatches running on Wear OS 3 and above. This includes the latest models from brands such as LG, Mobvoi, and Fossil.
